Frame sliders are devices which will help protect your bike’s frame, chassis, and fairing in the unfortunate event of a tip-over or lowside. These small devices are relatively inexpensive, mount right to the sides of your bike, and are well worth the meager cash they cost when it comes to protecting your beloved GSXR. After all, you shine it up everyday… you wash it several times a week… you keep all the maintenance up to date… why not get some extra insurance in the form of some frame sliders to really keep your bike safer if you ever did have an accident involving a tip-over or lowside?
When shopping for frame sliders, you will really have a hard time choosing one because there are so many different brands to choose from. Should you go with the cheapest? If they are of high quality, then yes. However, this is unlikely. You will probably want to explore the trusted names in motorcycle parts, and come up with some options there. Think of some names that you trust… what parts have you put on your bike? Who did you buy these parts from? Did they work right and last? If so, then you already have your first options. Go to these companies, find out if they offer frame sliders, and see what they cost. Of course, it could never hurt to check out the pro brands as well, just to see what they will run you. However, it is really not necessary to have racing grade frame sliders if you simply drive it to the lake once in awhile.

As far as installation goes, you may either choose to install them yourself, or to have a mechanic install them. If you choose to do it yourself, just make sure that you follow the instructions and install them right… slack will be paid for if you ever have to drop your bike in an emergency, and it will be in the form of a ruined fairing or messed up bike body! If you choose to let a mechanic install them, just make sure that you get somebody reputable to do the job. It won’t help you to have some amateur mechanic banging and twisting on your GSXR… and it won’t help you in a lowside if your frame sliders slide right off because they were not tightened right!
