The swingarm is a very important part of all modern motorcycles, including the Suzuki GSXR. It is the very main part of the entire rear suspension. It pivots vertically, allowing the suspension to absorb bumps and jars while riding, and holds the rear axle of the bike. This is a very important part of your bike that is not to be overlooked. Routine maintenance should be kept up with no exceptions as instructed in the bike’s service or owners manual. If you find yourself in need of a new swingarm for your motorcycle, you have a large variety of places to shop for it at your disposal. You can generally special order these from most automotive parts stores that service motorcycles, you can order them out of a catalog, or perhaps best of all, you can order them very easily on the Web by going to a good website and checking out what they have to offer.
Some people lengthen the swingarms of their motorcycles. This is a rather complicated procedure that has two main reasons for being done. One, it can allow you to put a different sized tires on your bike… or two, it can allow you to put another type of swingarm on entirely.

Changing the swingarm at all is a very complicated procedure that demands perfection for the sake of pure safety, and is a job best undertook by trained, certified professional motorcycle mechanics. If you need your swingarm changed or replaced, you should consult your trusted local mechanic (every motorcycle enthusiast has one!…) on how to proceed. Whether or not he can do it will determine whether you have to find someone else, but chances are good that your mechanic will be more than adequate to get the job done in a timely manner.
The swingarm, being a true cornerstone of any motorcycle, should be inspected thoroughly at regular intervals. Make sure that you educate yourself on what can go wrong with the swingarm, and make it a point to give your bike a routine going-over before every ride. Hey, its five minutes of your time that could potentially save your life… it is well worth it. Even if it is a bit of trouble, don’t let the “trouble” of it stop you from doing the right thing. Routine maintenance is, in and of itself, a cornerstone of safe and successful motorcycle riding.
